Beyond the standard understanding of collage as the construction of a 2D surface from assembled materials, I aim through this body of work to explore the very materiality of collage. I  explore the notion of how a surface might ‘resonate’. I am interested in spaces and objects often those we normally overlook or are silhouetted/shadowed, alongside those spaces and objects in the world we also think of as inanimate. I  use a process of ‘sampling’ as a way of collecting visual and ambient material from both intimate and expansive spaces. I have developed a growing visual archive of material explorations through collage, drawings, film, painting, installation, interactive media and textiles that links to the visualisation of how I ‘render’ ambience as expanded forms of collage. The resulting body of work aims to transpose sound as texture and image as ‘noise’. Click on the pattern samples to hear corresponding Soundworks.
